Covert Sins that Disqualify Leaders’

I. The Sin of Intemperance [Def: Not having your appetites in control]

A.    Temperance is practiced by those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit 
      (Galatians 5:23)

B.     Temperance is practiced by those who are adding to their faith (II Peter 1:6)

C.     Temperance is practiced by those who are in leadership positions (Titus 1:8)

II. The Sin of Defiling/Damaging the Temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19, 20)

A.    The Body is a Gift of God (v.19b)

B.     The Body does not belong to us (v.19c)

C.     We (our bodies) have been bought with a price (v.20a)

D.    We must glorify God in our body (v.20b)

III. The Sin of Not Being Blameless/Above Reproach (I Timothy 3:2, 7)

A.      The Leader Must be Blameless (v.2) Def: Can Not Be Laid Hold Upon, 
       literally No handles

B.      The Leader Must  Have A Good Report/ Above Reproach (v.7)

IV. The Sin of Gluttony

A.      Included with the Sins of Stubbornness, Rebellion, Drunkenness 
       (Deuteronomy 21:20; Prov 21:20; Matt 11:19)

    B.   Included with the Sins of Being a Liar and a Beast [Slow-Bellies:(Glutton)] 
          (Titus 1:12)
